Rhône-Alpes launches Regional Observatory of the Impacts of Climate Change

Warming of the climate is ongoing, and the preparation work for the Regional Climate Air and Energy Scheme of Rhône-Alpes (SRCAE) highlighted its already observed effects and their likely intensification in the future: rising average temperatures, melting The need to improve and disseminate knowledge on climate change and its effects in our region transpired as a priority in the SRCAE, which took the form of the creation of a regional observatory of climate change (ORECC). ORECC enables all stakeholders, including local authorities in charge of local climate action plans to access data and share methodologies for adaptation actions in “response” to climate change.

As an awareness-raising tool, ORECC is designed to benefit all: actors in the public sphere, associations, economic actors, academics, the general public…

develop and disseminate knowledge on climate change and its effects

  • promote the development and implementation by stakeholders of adaptation strategies
  • serve as a forum for exchanges and dialogue between climate change stakeholders, by setting up meetings and thematic working groups
  • The creation of the ORECC was decided on 24th June 2013 by DREAL Rhône-Alpes, the Rhône-Alpes Region and ADEME (French national energy and environment agency), and was formalized on 6 November 2013 at a launch conference co-hosted by the three founding organizations (DREAL, Rhône-Alpes and ADEME). The website was launched shortly after.
