SiReNa20 – Energy and Environmental Observatory of Lombardia Region [IT]

Thanks to DATA4ACTION exchange activities, IRE SpA has started to collaborate with the Energy Department of Infrastrutture Lombarde SpA – ILSpA, which deals with all the activities aimed at the development and implementation of regional energy policies and is in charge of the existing Energy and Environmental Observatory of Lombardia Region- SiReNa.

The SiReNa was created in 2007 to monitor energy consumption, production and emissions across the region, since they are crucial for the environmental competitiveness and sustainability. Thanks to  the contribution of the Factor20 Project SiReNa was upgraded becoming SiReNa20: a public online system that allows to manage and analyse energy data, at regional, provicial and municipal level and to monitor the Lombardia Region’s objectives on Renewable Energy Sources, Energy efficiency and GHG emissions reduction and to provide future scenarios in order to support the Region in the best effective choices towards the 2020 targets.

Nowadays SiReNa is managed by the Energy Department of Infrastrutture Lombarde S.p.A. on behalf of Lombardia Region that is the owner of the Observatory.

Context & Rationale

Thanks to DATA4ACTION exchange activities, IRE SpA has started to collaborate with the Energy Department of Infrastrutture Lombarde SpA – ILSpA, an in-house company developed to provide technical and administrative support to Lombardia Region in several fields of action like new infrastructures and strategic projects on energy and sustainable development.

In particular, the Energy and Environment Department of ILSpA deals with all the activities aimed at the development and implementation of regional energy policies and is in charge of the existing Energy and Environmental Observatory of Lombardia Region- SiReNa.

The key challenge that IRE and ILSpA would like to address is to improve the coordination and coherence among the existing energy databases through the exchange of experiences and comparison of the different models for the monitoring of energy consumptions at regional and local level (like Regional Energy Balance, Database of Energy Performance Certificates, data for monitoring Regional Burden Sharing..)

Description

The Energy and Environmental Observatory of Lombardia Region- SiReNa was created in 2007 to monitor energy consumption, production and emissions across the region, since they are crucial for the environmental competitiveness and sustainability. Nowadays SiReNa20 allows to monitor the Regional objectives on Renewable Energy Sources, Energy efficiency and GHG emissions reduction and to provide future scenarios in order to support the Region in the best effective choices towards the 2020 targets.

Main Results

SiReNa20 main aim is to monitor the Lombardia Region energy system in terms of safety, efficiency and sustainability. In particular the related key achievements are:

• Monitoring energy consumption, emissions, production and RES production (computing energy balances)
• Providing energy data at different levels (regional, provincial and municipal) for decision makers and citizens since it’s an open web tool
• Give an easy-to-read overview of progress made by the Region towards 2020
